Attenex Receives 10th Patent and Wins Two Awards for E-Discovery Software

Legal Industry Heritage and Innovative Software Converge in Proven E-discovery Offering

SEATTLE — June 11, 2007 — Attenex Corp., a leading e-discovery software provider, today announced that the company has been awarded its 10th patent, adding to the company’s collection of patents in the areas of content analytics, visualization and de-duplication. These patents, nine from the United States Patent and Trademark Office and one from the European Patent Office, focus on technological breakthroughs that help improve productivity for reviewing massive amounts of electronic data. The patented technology in Attenex® Patterns® E-Discovery Software has helped garner two influential industry awards from Red Herring Magazine and the WSA software organization.

“Attenex software forged new ground in the e-discovery market by dramatically increasing attorney document decisions per hour and reducing the overall cost of electronic discovery,” said Kimra Hawley, CEO of Attenex. “While a number of vendors try to retro-fit their software offerings to capitalize on the growing e-discovery market, our patented technology reflects more than five years of experience within e-discovery and legal review. Our customers benefit from this industry expertise with proven software that reduces the cost and risk associated with e-discovery.”

The 10 Attenex patents protect the company’s methods and algorithms for ‘de-duping’ and ‘near de-duping’ multiple duplicate documents, applying content analytics to assess the subject matter contained within the data, and then clustering the information in visual representations based on the semantic, social and time relationships of the content. In total, these 10 patents represent the company’s pioneering work in visual analytics for e-discovery. Attenex Patterns software’s unique visual analytics capabilities allow organizations to find relevant information faster and more accurately for litigation, regulatory requests and internal investigations. According to a recent report from Barry Murphy, senior analyst for Forrester Research (Believe It — eDiscovery Technology Spending To Top $4.8 Billion By 2011, Forrester Research, Inc., December 2006), “The largest addressable cost in e-discovery is the cost of legal professionals who review data. Tools with visual analytics built in can make these legal professionals more efficient by determining whether or not data is relevant, is privileged, or even needs to be produced in response to a discovery request. Tools aimed at making lawyers with high hourly wages as efficient as possible represent the largest potential cost savings in e-discovery.”

As evidence of the impact of visual analytics on reducing the cost of review, Attenex also announced winning two separate industry awards from Red Herring Magazine and the WSA. The ‘Red Herring 100’ award is given to the top 100 private technology companies based in North America, and the annual award recognizes up-and-coming companies and entrepreneurs who are changing the way individuals live and work. Past recipients of the award have included Google, eBay and Skype. The second award, presented by the WSA at its Investor Forum event in Seattle, recognizes Attenex as one of the most promising private software companies in Washington State. Founded in 1984, the WSA (formerly the Washington Software Alliance) is a community working together to advance the economic value and global impact of technology companies.

“We’re very proud of the fact that Attenex software saves corporations millions of dollars in legal fees and allows them to control the e-discovery process,” said Kimra Hawley, CEO of Attenex. “It’s an incredible honor for us and our Attenex Advantage Partners to be recognized at the local and national level for these achievements.”

Attenex® Patterns® E-Discovery Software helps bridge the gap between corporate legal teams and IT by providing the advanced discovery capabilities that legal teams need and the flexible software that IT requires. The software can be deployed on-premise, in a hosted environment managed by an Attenex Advantage partner, or in a custom combination tailored to the demands of the customer’s environment.
