Attenex Announces Attenex Patterns® E-Discovery Platform Version 1.7

Product Enhancements and Export to Summation Further Accelerate Electronic Discovery Process for Litigators

NEW YORK, February 2, 2004 -- Attenex® Corporation, an electronic discovery software provider for the legal services industry, today announced version 1.7 of the Attenex® Patterns® E-Discovery Platform. Attenex Patterns is an integrated software solution that enables corporate legal departments and law firms to efficiently manage the process of electronic discovery in litigation. Attenex Patterns 1.7 offers new features and significant enhancements to increase user productivity and further reduce the risk, time and expense of electronic discovery.

"Today, complex litigation requires attorneys to effectively manage hundreds of gigabytes or even terabytes of data in a single matter,” said Skip Walter, CEO of Attenex Corporation. “Traditional approaches to electronic discovery are no longer practical or efficient. The new features and enhancements in Attenex Patterns 1.7 enable review teams to make more document decisions per hour and provide lawyers with more control during the review phase of electronic discovery."

Walter announced the release of Patterns 1.7 during a keynote presentation at LegalTech 2004 in New York. In his address, Walter illustrated best practices in preparing for and creating an effective electronic discovery strategy.

"With the accelerating pace of litigation involving email messages and electronic documents, Attenex is a significant player in a rapidly growing marketplace for e-discovery solutions,” said Geoffrey Bock, senior vice president and senior consultant for the Patricia Seybold Group. “Attenex Patterns provides the tools and the underlying infrastructure to intuitively answer such questions as: What is the document collection all about? What documents are responsive to the discovery request? How is one document related to another?"

Attenex Patterns 1.7 supports the direct export of selected documents and metadata to Summation® in addition to the export of Attenex Patterns metadata to an XML file. User interface and workflow enhancements in Patterns 1.7 further increase the productivity of litigators and legal review teams.

"Enabling integration with popular litigation support and document repository software is one more way to help litigators and legal service providers control the time and expense of electronic discovery," said Jim Henderson, executive vice president, Summation. "Reviewers using Attenex Patterns can rapidly review and mark the responsive, privileged, and other identified documents in a matter and then seamlessly export it to leading evidence management and organizational tools like Summation's iBlaze® and our new pure-browser product, WebBlaze™."

Attenex Patterns software is currently available through Attenex and select legal service providers including Forensics Consulting Solutions (www.forensicsconsulting.com), KPMG Forensic Technology Services (www.us.kpmg.com/microsite/fts), LIT Group (www.litgroup.com), Merrill Corporation (www.merrillcorp.com), and Security Assurance Group(www.securityassurancegroup.com).

About Attenex Patterns E-Discovery Platform

Attenex dramatically reduces the time, expense and risk of electronic discovery with integrated and uniquely intuitive tools that simplify data management and accelerate review. Attenex Patterns E-Discovery Platform software improves the quality of review and enables review teams to rapidly review large volumes of electronic information while preserving the legal chain of custody. Instead of treating electronic documents solely as bodies of text that can be indexed and keyword searched, Attenex Patterns approaches them as collections of concepts. The software then displays them in the aggregate as a visual map showing clusters of conceptually related documents. This allows attorneys and legal practitioners to review and make high-quality decisions on a much higher volume of documents per hour, quickly separating the clearly relevant from the clearly irrelevant documents. These efficiencies provide law firms and corporations with a way to proactively manage the time and cost associated with the review of potentially discoverable documents.
